Benches

One day two friends, who happened to be artists, took an interest in public benches, why are they here, what view do they offer, who sits on them and why? They decided that an arts project might be the best way to answer these questions, get to sit and have a nice chat with strangers, combine their artforms to learn more about their own practice, and see if they would still be friends after working together.

So ‘Benches’ is a collaborative mission combining dance, photography and digital processes. Created from thoughts and images of the people of North Staffordshire and Stoke-On-Trent this project uses public benches as a meeting point and aims to unveil aspects of the areas contemporary identity. Public response will inspire a contemporary movement piece which will be photographed and displayed in the public realm.
